User reviews of Indiana home warranty companies

  • Submitted By Gigi Suarez, Fort Wayne, First American

First American is supposed to be a reliable, trustworthy company with a good name and solid reputation, but the more I hear and learn about them, the more suspicious I get. It seems that people don’t get a lot of their claims approved. From my experience, there are definitely some things they could improve, but we’ll see how it goes by the end of my contract. You never know.

  • Submitted By Loretta Simmons, Terre Haute, Select Home Warranty

I only have good things to say about Select Home Warranty. As a brand new homeowner, I thought it would be a good idea to get home warranty on top of the insurance I got for my property. Makes me sleep easier at night. I have had the Select Home Warranty Gold Care plan for several months and I have filed one claim, and successfully so. It was my water heater, it broke so my home did not have any hot water for a few days. It was in February so obviously we needed that fixed ASAP. The company sent an excellent, skilled repairman right away, and he took care of the problem in a day or two.

  • Submitted By Max Ferguson, Muncie, Total Home Shield

Although it is a bit on the expensive side, Total Home Shield is still one of the best home warranties around. They have some professional, reliable repairmen and their plans are very clear and fair. Whether this kind of service is actually worth the money is a different issue.

  • Submitted By Lance Roberts, Merrillville, SquareTrade

Someone please explain to me what’s the purpose of getting warranty for brand new appliances? Those are already under  some sort of warranty by the seller or manufacturer, right? What a ridiculous and unnecessary service. Ok maybe the five year plan makes some sense but it is still expensive.
