User reviews of Florida home warranty companies

  • Submitted By Terry Jones, Tallahassee, Total Home Shield

My experience with Total Home Shield is a generally positive one. My wife and I purchased a property with some appliances and systems that were still in good shape so we decided to keep them. Obviously they were going to require some TLC so we purchased home warranty from Total Home Shield, through the Gold Plan. After a few months, we required assistance as the heating system in the house broke and we started to freeze. The contractor was there in less than two days and he fixed the issue very quickly. We were lucky that the malfunction was covered in our plan because we heard that many times the company tends to deny your claim on a technicality.

  • Submitted By Rosalita Martinez, Miami Beach, SquareTrade

My grandson recommended Square Trade because he has a warranty for his phone and he thinks it’s a decent company, but I don’t agree with him, not after they denied three straight claims I filed. I would like to know if anyone ever got an approved claim from them.

  • Submitted By Pete Brashear, Sarasota, Total Protect

Total Protect is great in many aspects but the price is not one of them. Did you notice they have the most expensive deductibles? My cousin says they pay $125 and I “only” paid $75 which is still a lot. On the other hand, their service is very professional and I do think they are trying their best not to rip anyone off when it comes to denying claims and stuff.

  • Submitted By Miguel Pajo, Fort Myers, 365 Home Warranty

We got the premium plan with 365 Home Warranty and also some additional coverage for your in-ground pool sprinklers and stuff. About a month ago, something went wrong with the pool, not sure what exactly, but it stopped getting fresh water and it turned stale and dirty because of that. When we called 365, they said someone would be there in the next two days. The contractor came five days later. Didn’t fix the problem, just inspected it and later the company said that our exact problem is not covered in our plan because it’s a part that is not included in the coverage (again, not sure which one, some sort of pump I think). I was obviously very disappointed.

  • Submitted By Lucas Walford, Gainesville, American Home Shield

I do believe I made a good call when I purchased a plan from American Home Shield. I know they say home warranty is a big scam but it actually turned out to be useful for me since they repaired my plumbing and only charged the deductible just like they said they would. Also, from what I hear, they don’t have as many exclusions from coverage as some other companies.
